International Baccalaureate at Hopkins Junior Highs

Hopkins West Junior High was authorized as an IB World School offering the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in June 2015.

The MYP is a globally-recognized curriculum framework, representing current best practices in teaching, learning and assessment. It encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, preparing them for success in further study and in life. The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. The program empowers students to inquire into a wide range of locally, nationally, and globally significant issues and ideas. The result is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

As students develop their disciplinary and interdisciplinary studies, they will learn through eight subject groups (links from IB website):

Throughout the program of inquiry in the MYP, students will explore concepts and contexts that help us find our place in time and space, see our connections to others and to the world around us. With a commitment to authentic service, the MYP helps learners see opportunities for action in order to make the future more sustainable for all. At WJH, the MYP culminates with the Community Project, an opportunity for all 9th grade students to explore their right and responsibility to implement service as action in the community through a sustained, in-depth service project. This project demonstrates our students' developing identities as young leaders and positive examples of the IB's Learner Profile in action.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Middle Years Program here at Hopkins West Junior High.
