Media Specialist Sara Williams, Media Paraprofessional Linda Leighton, and Technology Support Specialist Alexis Larson welcome you to the Glen Lake Elementary Media Center. The media center provides a connection between our school community and information media.
Sara Williams meets with students regularly to work on computer information and literacy skills, and other special projects, such as our weekly news show. Linda Leighton directs our book checkout and maintains the organization of the media center. And Alexis Larson supports the technology component of student learning.
Our Book Collection
Our media center has a book collection of over 14,000 titles. Students have a scheduled media time each week. Materials are checked out for a two-week period but may be exchanged at any time.
Our Information Classroom
This space in the media center has many functions. It is used for small-group instruction and for staff meetings. With our 30 MacBook computers and wireless network, classes are able to do flexible research where they move around the entire media center and have ample access to a robust collection of information.
We have 30 networked iMacs. Classroom teachers can schedule lab time in 30-minute blocks. Students at Glen Lake are taught skills ranging from basic computer use to movie presentations and interactive Internet sites. Technology is integrated into our curriculum in every grade level for every subject.
